When the efforts required to reach one's goal become too painful, it is most likely because the goal itself does not come from the bottom of one's own heart. A student, for example, may have no trouble summoning the desire to study a subject that he or she likes or finds interesting. However, the same student might procrastinate when faced with studying a subject that seems distasteful or boring.
When we feel we are "bad" at something, it is usually because we have decided beforehand that it is too difficult or that we don't like it. At such tijmes we must realize that this is where our weakness lies, and that we can make great progress by challenging our weakest point and overcoming it.
In taking an exam, for instance, by challenging the subject in which you feel weakest, you can face the entire exam with great confidence. By challenging your weakest point, you create the cause to win in determination that "I will definitely win," you must also make continual effort, especially in the area in which you are weakest.
SGI* President Ikeda said, "The great Argentine educator Almafuerte wrote, 'To the weak, difficulty is a closed door. To the Strong, however, it is a door waiting to be opened.' Difficulties impede the progress of those who are weak. For the strong, however, they are opportunities to open wide the doors to a bright future. Everything is determined by our attitude, by our resolve. Our heart is what matter most."
This article is extracted from Singapore Soka Association (SSA) Times which I think is really time for us to reflect on our own weaknesses and face them courageously to challenge them. Instead of running away or turning away from the thing that we dislike, we should boldly overcome them with the correct mindset. Never feel negative about the situation or the problem that arises, this will allow our weaknesses to overwhelm us. Being pessimistic of the situation would just reflect on our attitude in wanting to challenge our weak point. It is just like the example of a half full or a half empty glass of water. If you are pessimistic, you have already lost even the battle begin.
For all of those taking exams and facing difficult issue on hand, hope this guidance can allow you to be more assertive in overcoming the challengers that lies ahead of you.
For my girlfriend, 加油! Everything goes back to our faith in the Gohonzon and yourselves. Your hardwork will payoff! You will be best when you are at best. =)
